YES PROGRAMME (Youth Enterprise Scheme)
The Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) was relaunched this year at Tereora College for the year 12 students. This scheme is designed to help students learn about running their own businesses and aims to inspire young people to explore their entrepreneurial potential and develop essential business and life skills.
Back in May, 11 teams (40+ students) pitched their ideas to a panel of judges with 4 teams receiving cash prizes and the rest of the teams receiving gifts from BCI who have partnered with the Chamber of commerce to run this program. The products developed ranged from school caps, Cookies/sweets/chocolates, coconut bowls, pita pockets, printed pareu products, tote bags to Air Bnb hamper service.
This week some of these students took their products to market and have been selling at the BCI trade day. This is one of the last challenges the students need to complete before they complete their course.
We hope that some of these ideas will grow into a sustainable business and wish the students all the best.
We have also been fortunate to have had an awesome team of mentors supporting each team that have come from the business community who have continued to support their teams over the last few months.
